Buzz From the Clubs — Fall 2018
Junior member meets PGA Tour hero, Toms triumphs, and a presidential sighting
BY KATE WAHNSCHAFFE — Fall 2018
This summer, ClubCorp paired with Cobra Puma Golf to provide junior members of ClubCorp clubs the opportunity to purchase the same polo and hat PGA Tour star Rickie Fowler wore during Friday’s round of the 2018 PGA Championship. In addition, participants of a “Look Like Rickie” contest entered for a chance to win a trip to the 2018 World Golf Championships — Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, and to meet Fowler and watch him in action. Contest winner Christopher Hastings, a member at Quail Hollow Country Club in Concord, Ohio, scored the tickets for himself and his 4-year-old son, Stone, who spent one-on-one time with Fowler on the course’s driving range prior to tournament practice rounds.
In July, David Toms, a member at Southern Trace Country Club in Shreveport, La., claimed the victory at the 2018 U.S. Senior Open, his first PGA Tour Champions win. Toms won by one stroke with a 3-under 277, adding to his career 13 PGA Tour wins — including a major win at the 2001 PGA Championship.
Also in July, former President George W. Bush stopped in at Timarron Country Club in Southlake, Texas, for a round of golf and mingled with members and employee partners.
The Sea Lions competitive swim team at Crow Canyon Country Club in Danville, Calif., grabbed the gold at this year’s Contra Costa County Championship, preserving its county champion title for the 14th consecutive year.
