Who she is: President of the University of South Florida and CEO of the USF system, which offers more than 240 degree programs at campuses in Sarasota-Manatee, St. Petersburg, and Tampa. During her tenure, USF has become one of the country’s leading public research universities.
Work that matters: At USF, with its strong emphasis on neuroscience research, faculty researchers make strides in discovering the potential causes and cures of debilitating brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
Go global: When accepted to the university, students receive a passport application in their welcome packet. “We heavily stress international experiences,” Genshaft says. “Businesses want employees who are able to understand, have respect for, and interact with cultures other than their own.”
Coming up: A $157 million tower in downtown Tampa, near the school’s teaching hospital, will house both the relocated College of Medicine and a new Heart Institute, focused on cardiovascular disease research and care. It is scheduled for completion in August 2019.
