New Flights to Muskoka, Ontario
Easier access this summer to Canada favorite
BY JIM BYERS — Summer 2019
n Ontario, Canada, the Muskoka district north of Toronto is a celebrated playground, a jigsaw puzzle of lakes and bays with rocky islands dotted with birch, maple, and pine trees. Visitors head there for fabulous boating, posh resorts, and some of Canada’s best 18 holes, including Rocky Crest Golf Club in MacTier; and Muskoka Bay Club and Taboo Muskoka Resort & Golf, both in Gravenhurst. But the drive from Toronto to Muskoka, about 100 miles, can be a teeth-gnashing, three- to four-hour headache when summer rolls around. Luckily, two airlines can help you bypass the traffic. In May, FlyGTA (888-470-4595; flygta.com) introduced 20- to 30-minute flights from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport near downtown to Muskoka Airport that will operate Thursdays-Mondays through mid-October. One-way tickets cost from $159. Porter Airlines (888-619-8622; flyporter.com), a regional carrier that serves several U.S. cities, will fly the Toronto-Muskoka route on Thursdays and Mondays from June 27 to Sept. 3, with one-way flights from $66. Beats the heck out of the highway.
