Who he is: In September, he took the reins as regional president-Bacardi North America, a division of Bacardi, the world’s largest privately held spirits company. He is responsible for the company’s North American commercial operations. “It’s a fun business, and it’s always changing,” he says.
Leadership style: Carr gained his reputation for leadership and growing profits at respected beverage companies such as Diageo and Glazer’s but says it’s really about the people. “I can grow this company a lot faster by focusing on people instead of a brand.”
Finding his calling: “It was career day at college, and one of the companies there was E&J Gallo Winery. I thought, ‘I like wine,’ so I threw in my résumé.”
Developing fresh ideas: “My best time to think is when I’m working out,” which he does at 5:30 most mornings in the gym at Bacardi’s headquarters in Coral Gables, Fla. “It’s where my best ideas come from.”
