Who he is: After nearly a decade in commercial real estate and residential home building, he followed his craft-beer passion and in 2013 founded La Quinta Brewing Co. in California’s Coachella Valley.
Beer boast: Last May, the company won a gold medal at the World Beer Cup for its robust Bourbon Barrel Aged Koffi Porter. More than 1,900 breweries from 55 countries competed in last year’s event held in Philadelphia.
How it started: He got the brewing bug in 2011 when his wife bought him a Mr. Beer home brew kit for Christmas. Within two years, he opened his brewery and released his first batch.
Things are hopping: Along with the original 4,500-square-foot brewery and taproom in an industrial section of Palm Desert, Calif., the company now has a larger taproom in the upscale Old Town neighborhood about 5 miles away.
What’s brewing? Both taprooms feature 11 beers on tap — Poolside Blonde and Even Par IPA being the two most popular. “We don’t have a lot of esoteric, crazy beers with 15 different ingredients. They’re all very drinkable and appeal to a lot of people.”
