Who he is: In March, the Cleveland Cavaliers retired the 7’3″ center’s No. 11 jersey. “Z,” who ended his 13-season career in 2011, played for the Cavs from 1996 to 2010, leading them to the NBA Finals in 2007 and earning team records for games played, offensive rebounds, total rebounds, and blocked shots.
Jersey boy: The retirement ceremony attracted many fans and players, including ex-teammate LeBron James. “It was an out-of-body experience. I got to see a lot of friends, say goodbye to my fans, and thank them. It was very humbling.”
What’s next? Although he works part time in the Cavs’ front office, he says, “I haven’t found that one thing I want to do for the next 10, 20 years. I’m enjoying being bored once in a while.”
Family time: His two preteen sons factored heavily into his retirement. “I wanted to be home for them. If my sons can look back on me as being a good father, that will be my greatest accomplishment.”
